One neat trick Chris showed us was to avoid putting our nail directly on the intersect - rather place it say 5mm to one side. This is an excellent idea (since you do not lose the intersect mark, ever) but makes you work harder to find the best place to put it! As in all things only practice makes perfect.
Turns out I put the line in on the wrong side of the batten for the whole length of the chine!
